Coastal brown ants are one of the most common ants on the Sunshine Coast. They are small and light brown, and they nest in soil under pavers, concrete paths, driveways and house slabs. The easiest sign is small piles of sand or soil pushed up between paving joints, along the edge of paths or out of cracks in the slab. They also like to nest in lawns, which can leave the grass looking patchy. Inside, they trail along skirting boards, benches and pet bowls looking for food.
Their colonies can be very large, with many queens and nests joined together, so spraying a few trails does little. When you call, we ask where you see the soil piles and the trails, then give you upfront pricing and book a nearby independent crew. The crew we book will usually:

Coastal brown ants love sandy coastal soil and warm, wet weather, so they are busiest from spring to autumn and after heavy rain. You may see more ants for a few days after the visit as the colony reacts. Sweeping the soil piles away each time they appear is fine, but avoid household sprays on the trails while the baits are working. Filling open paving joints with sand and sealing cracks along the slab edge helps reduce places for new nests.
