Black house ants are the small, shiny black ants that form neat trails along kitchen benches, window sills and bathroom tiles. They are common in homes across the Sunshine Coast, and they often nest in wall cavities, under floors, in pot plants and in gaps around windows and door frames. Outside, they nest in soil, under rocks and in the bark of trees. Their colonies can have several queens, which is why a few ants on the bench can turn into a steady stream.
