Brushing webs down before spraying lets the treatment reach the surfaces spiders walk on. New spiders will still wander in from the garden, but numbers around the house should drop. Turning off outdoor lights when they are not needed means fewer insects at night and less for spiders to eat. Moving stacked pots, timber and boxes away from the walls also takes away hiding spots. Many homes book a spider spray each spring, when webs start building up again.
