Ant baiting works with the way ants live. Worker ants collect food and carry it back to share with the rest of the colony, including the queen. When the crew places the right bait on the trail, the workers take it home, and over the next week or two the colony shrinks from the inside. On the Sunshine Coast, baiting is often the main treatment for ants inside homes, where spraying is not practical near food and benches.
The trick is choosing the right bait. Some ants want sugar, others want protein or fat, and their tastes can change with the season. When you call, we ask what the ants look like and where they are feeding, then give you upfront pricing and book a nearby independent crew. The crew we book will usually:
- Work out which ant you have and what it is feeding on
- Place gel or granular baits along active trails
- Set baits near entry points, windows and sinks
- Put bait stations where pets and children cannot reach
- Combine baits with an outside spray where it suits
For baiting to work, the ants need to find and eat the bait. Do not wipe it away, spray over it or put ant powder near it. Leave the trail alone for a few days, even if you see more ants at first, since that means they are feeding. Keep other food put away so the bait is the easiest meal around. Most homes see a clear drop in ant numbers within one to two weeks.
